Fun Foods

Here is some rainbow bread I made for the kids at school.  Each day of the week we wore a color of the rainbow and had food that color.  When it came to blue and purple I didn't know what to do.  I had some bananas that needed to be baked and tried making a loaf of blue bread and a loaf of purple bread.
My kids and I made colored bread for sandwiches when they were little.  It is a great way to get your bread well  kneaded.  It worked great for that, so why not banana bread, right?
Well, back to the banana bread.  The last color day was all the rainbow colors, so I made multicolored bread.  Here it is.

I divided the batter into 5 bowls and colored each one.  I used cake decorating coloring, but any will work.

I added a spoonful of each color of batter to a loaf pan sprayed with nonstick spray and floured.

I kept adding spoonfuls of batter trying to keep each color away from the last spoonful of that color.

You can see the messy top layer from scraping the last of the batter into the pan.  Messier shapes may be an idea for next time.

My recipe is for one large or 2 standard size loaf pans.  I used the large pan, so I had to do the entire process two times.

Here is part of one loaf sliced.

Here is the entire loaf sliced.  The colors on the bottom and outer edges will roll up the sides as it cooks.

Notice the picture on the right.  The loaf on the plate is brighter than the slices on the table.  I used less food coloring in the second batch.
